Maxwell Church is working towards planting a new Bible-driven church in the North West of Kilmarnock in the Onthank housing estate. This work is being headed up by Paul Harkess – who also serves as Assistant Minister at Maxwell Church.
So why does Onthank need a new church?
Firstly – because the great commission compels us to make disciples.“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19-20a)
Secondly – we are to ‘teach disciples to obey everything Jesus has commanded us.’ The weight of the New Testament makes it clear that the local church is the natural environment for people to be discipled.
Thirdly – there are currently 5000 people living in Onthank, and we want to share the hope of Jesus Christ with the people who live there. With most churches in Kilmarnock being situated close to the town centre – there is a great need in North West Kilmarnock.
